AgriSA calls for unified FMD response after court outcome AgriSA
AgriSA notes the outcome of the Gauteng High Court matter on Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and emphasises that the ruling should be respected.
However, it is regrettable that the matter required court intervention during an animal health crisis, diverting focus from coordinated disease control efforts.
FMD remains a national priority with significant implications for livestock, food security, and exports. AgriSA calls for urgent unity and coordination across all stakeholders, alongside accelerated implementation of vaccination, traceability, and disease management measures.
AgriSA remains committed to working with partners to curb the spread of FMD and restore South Africa’s animal health status.
